Steve and I have been actively photographing the Holy Island of Lindisfarne for the past two years. When we embarked on the project, a journey of light. Our main aspiration was to photograph this majestic tranquil haven, placed just of the North East coast, like it has never been captured before.
We have spent a duration of two years amongst our other working schedule, planning the light and capturing images of the island in such a way that portrays the magnificent beauty and ever changing light that Holy Island has to offer.
We began photographing the island's famous icons such as Lindisfarne Castle, The Priory ruins, The Harbour and other famous landmarks. We have now started to delve deeper into Holy Island's beautiful landscapes, geology, and coastline. These are parts of the island that many people who visit never actually get to see.
You can find our images of Holy Island in our landscape section of this site. We also have a book proposal, The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, a journey of light. If you would like to view the proposal, please contact: emmarothera@yourbeautifulphotography.com

The Tinsley Cooling Towers, two icon's rising high into Sheffield's skyline. Built in 1938, they were the oldest cooling towers in the UK. A large prominence in Sheffield's steel industry for over 70 years.
In August of 2008, both Steve and I took a short trip on location down the M1 to Sheffield, to photograph the demolition of these famous landmarks. Our journey commenced at 8pm to beat the road blocks. The M1 and the surrounding areas around the Tinsley Towers where going to be closed at 9.30pm. We spent a duration of seven hours, sat in the rain on the east bank waiting for this historic moment. At Exactly 2.50am, the sirens sounded and then at 2.55am they sounded again, there was an atmosphere of hush and great anticipation. Then at exactly 3am, a loud bang, the walls of the towers cracked, rippled and exploded like a fragile toy in less that 10 seconds.
Thousands of people, young and old, showed for this dramatic event and a once in a life time experience, despite the strict security. It just goes to show people do care about our countries heritage and architecture.
This job held an extraordinary air of excitement and sadness for both Steve and I. To photograph these soporific giants collapse was an amazing moment in time for both of us, giving us a strange feeling of mortality. The tower's have held a strong significance in our lives, for both, they marked nearly the end of a long journey home.
See opposite one image that was taken on the night. For further information regarding useage rights of our Tinsley Tower images, please contact Emma Rothera at: info@yourbeautifulphotography.com

A fashion shoot for Traidcraft. Established in 1979, Traidcraft helps to fight poverty in some of the poorest countries in the world. By creating trade for people, it has enabled them to transform their lives. For example, parents can afford to fund their childrens education, which will give them the chance of a better future.
Our brief was to create a new style of fashion photography for the Autumn range. We created clean and vibrant shots which emphasize the shape and colours of the fabric. The shots will be used in the Autumn catalogue and displayed on the web to help sell the garments. All of the products which Traidcraft sell have been created by ordinary people in many different developing counties around the world, giving them the chance of a brighter future.

The Northern Ballet Theatre, is the uk's award winning number one dance company. The shoot was for the up and coming performance of 'A Tale of two Cities' based on the famous novel written by Charles Dickens.
The story centres on the years leading up to the french revolution and is based in two cities, Paris and London.
The book tells the story of two men who are of a similar look but have very different personalities, who both fall deeply in love with the same woman.
Using lighting to create the mood for the shoot in the Northern Ballet Dance Studio was our main aim. Capturing the right composition and movement through dance also played a large role in the shoot. Similarly, through imagery we wanted to reflect the main concept of the story, the love of the two men for the same woman.
Visit our dance portfolio section of the site to see the shots we captured on the day, which will be used in a series of promotional literature to market the performance on a national basis.

It's almost impossible not to be affected by the peaceful tranquility, beautiful landscape and ever changing light that Holy Island has to offer.
In very early January 2008, after many visits to Holy Island, Northumbria. Steve and I took a trip on location to the Island that has captured our souls. Our main apspiration was to encapsulate the natural light, spirit and essence of Holy Island through photography. For a duration of Fourteen days We walked, waited and ran after the light. Capturing the beautiful landscapes, with the North Sea's winter wind whipping at our backs.
For us it has been a journey like no other, enjoying the peace and quiet. Lighting up the log fire and seeing the most amazing constellation of stars reach high into the inky black sky on a cold winter's night.
